Spiritual Directors' Institute at Mercy
Center
Burlingame, CA
Spiritual Directors' Institute (SDI) is a three-phased program.
The Institute is designed for those seeking formal training in spiritual
direction.
Phase One is for those who are exploring the ministry
of Christian spiritual direction and desiring professional development
in the knowledge of spirituality. Participants learn by listening to experienced
directors, observing role plays, and participating in peer group discussions.
Phase One requires a written application and an interview for entry.
Phase Two begins the practicum of actually directing
and being supervised. Participants will explore in greater depth issues
in spiritual direction and will practice skills relative to the direction
they are doing. Phase Two requires an interview for entry.
Phase Three continues the practicum and supervision.
It also presents a holistic way of working with the movements of the Holy
Spirit present in a directees life.
Directors will be introduced to the simultaneous connection that underpins
the intrapersonal, interpersonal, structural, and environmental realities
of their own lives and the lives of their directees. Participants are
invited to explore the mind-set through which they do direction. Special
emphasis will be placed on the practice of supervised spiritual direction.
